Summary of Position

Under the supervision of the Chief Operating Officer, the Grants Manager is responsible for the development and writing of government and private grants, contract compliance and reporting, and managing the organization’s government and private grantor relationships. This highly responsible position provides oversight of research, grant preparation and submission, and subsequent reporting including data collection, performance tracking and analysis, and internal monthly reporting. The Grants Manager provides ongoing grant prospect research and grant funding projections in conjunction with the annual agency budgeting process, and coordinates and facilitates internal planning and implementation meetings for grants. This position also supports special development project initiatives. The Grants Manager possesses strong writing skills using storytelling and data to measure and demonstrate impact, research and data analysis experience, excellent budgeting and project management skills, and a track record of winning grants for non-profit organizations.
Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead grant proposal development and submissions – writing narrative and developing budgets, preparing and organizing materials for proposals, and submitting and monitoring grant applications.
  • Conduct research to identify relevant grant opportunities that match organizational strategic priorities and needs.
  • Directly involved in grant writing and coordination of contract grant writers when applicable.
  • Ensures close collaboration with program managers and finance staff on the development and implementation of contract deliverables and budgets Oversee implementation of grant deliverables and impact according to contract agreements.
  • Identify opportunities and develop strategies to optimize grants administration system.
  • Coordinates and conducts monthly grants reconciliation meetings in conjunction with finance staff, relevant management and operations departments. Keep relevant staff informed about upcoming schedules and deadlines.
  • Oversee invoicing, accounting, reporting, and other grants management functions to ensure successful implementation of grants.
  • Prepare financial or budget plans and allocations in collaboration with the finance department.
  • Analyze grant budget trends and make recommendations for cost control and reduction.
  • Provide detailed reports to grantors and the Executive Director regarding implementation of deliverables and organizational impact.
  • Monitor paperwork and other related documents connected with grant-funded programs.
  • Maintain records of all payments and receivables and prepare monthly records for all grants-related activities.
  • Assist in developing presentations for various stakeholders.
  • Perform related and other duties as assigned.

  • Proficient in using computers with related knowledge of software programs and internet.

 

  Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in creative writing or related field. Certificate in non-profit grant writing preferred.
  • Successful history (5+ years) work experience in developing non-profit grant proposals and budgets, government and private grants administration/management, and/or fundraising.
  • Demonstrated analytical, persuasive writing and research skills, as well as superior editing skills, including ability to convey complex information in a clear manner to a diverse audience.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook and grant management software.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize projects and multi-task in a fast-paced working environment.

 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of working with multicultural communities and human rights issues.

 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, honest communications, positive attitude and ability to carry a professional tone.

 

  • Ability to maintain composure in an organization that regularly provides support to highly traumatized victims.
