Summary of Position

Under the supervision of the Director of Development, the Communications Manager will be responsible for  managing CAST’s communications plan to engage key stakeholders and the community at large. This position will develop and manage the organization’s social media outlets, brand strategy and implementation, aid in the preparation of presentations and/or write speeches and talking points for executive staff, and serve as liaison with public relations firm.

The Communications Manager must demonstrate a commitment to providing support and upholding CAST’s mission. This position is ideal for an individual who is self-motivated, passionate about human rights and able to work in a team or independently. This representative will possess strong communication, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

 

Essential Responsibilities

Traditional Communications

Develop and implement CAST communications plan and all supporting strategies, which includes brand management and all social media communications (listed below) and:

  • A communications calendar for print, fund-raising campaigns, events and major donors
  • Press releases, CAST corporate communications, project-specific communications and mailings
  • Workshop and conference materials
  • Speaking engagements materials
  • Board recruitment support materials
  • CAST annual impact report
  • Other written and marketing materials as needed

 

Social Media

  • Develop electronic communications plan and calendar to support regular and ad-hoc communications
  • Manage the CAST website; Work with web developer to facilitate regular site maintenance and updates.
  • Manage CAST’s social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram). Create daily posts to all sites
  • Develop social media strategies to optimize search engine listing and increase followers and site engagement
  • Develop and implement weekly email blasts

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in communications or related field required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Candidate is proficient in one additional language, preferably Spanish.
  • Successful history (5+ years) in managing organizational communications.
  • Successful track record in developing communications plans and strategies, including brand management, media and public relations. Successful management of social media resources, such as Twitter, Facebook, Linked In and/or other marketing venues.
  • Track record of managing production of communications materials, such as brochures and e-communications.
  • Proven history in developing presentations for others, including Power Point decks and speeches.
  • Demonstrated ability in public speaking to a highly diverse audience.
  • Demonstrated success managing communications for fundraising.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, and fundraising software.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize projects and multi-task in a fast-paced working environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of working with multicultural communities and human rights issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, honest communications, positive attitude and ability to carry a professional tone.
  • Ability to maintain composure in an organization that regularly provides support to highly traumatized victims.
